The married couple - the world number six mixed doubles pair - eased past Indonesian brother and sister Markis Kido and Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth 21-15 21-8 at the Barclaycard Arena on Wednesday.
English number one Rajiv Ouseph also tasted success in the men's singles, enjoying a stunning 21-16 18-21 21-19 win over Korean third seed Son Wan-ho.
Chris Coles and Sophie Brown put up some resistance but were beaten 21-13 21-13 by Olympic mixed doubles champions Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei of China. Matthew Nottingham and Harley Towler lost 21-11 21-18 to eighth seeds Haifeng Fu and Nan Zhang.
Andrew Ellis and Peter Mills went out of the men's doubles, 21-9 21-17, to defending champions Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia.
