Alex Danson stars as Great Britain beat Japan

Alex Danson scored twice as Great Britain rallied to beat Japan 2-1 in their Investec Private Banking International at Lee Valley.

Yukari Yamamoto put the visitors in front from the penalty spot in the 25th minute before Danson's second-half brace helped her side to victory.

Yamamoto converted Japan's first opportunity by sending Maddie Hinch the wrong way having been awarded the penalty stroke for a foot on the line.

But Danny Kerry's men responded well by piling on the pressure and they were finally rewarded with an equaliser in the 42nd minute.

Stalwart Helen Richardson-Walsh, who was awarded her 250th combined GB and England cap before the game, found Danson in the circle and the No 15 kept her composure to beat the Japanese netminder and sweep home.

Jole Leigh and Sarah Robertson caused problems for the visitors in the final quarter as the hosts pushed for the win.

And the goal their performance merited arrived two minutes from time when a penalty corner from Richardson-Walsh set up a diving Danson for the winner.
